TV: The Strike

Thanks to RubberPoultry for the great graphic.

"As the writers strike hits the six-week mark on Monday, the ramifications for the TV biz are growing by the hour.

Starting next week, the force majeure ax may begin to fall on various talent deals at the major studios. Industry insiders say some of the nonwriting producer deals and nonwriting "pod" deals that have proliferated during the past decade could be vulnerable, particularly for those with a mixed track record of delivering successes to their studio partners.

(Many contracts use the six-week mark for allowing termination of a deal under provisions of force majeure, or a disruptive event that prevents both sides adhering to the terms of the contract, but the length of time can vary significantly depending on the deal.)

Decisions on who gets cut will be made on a case-by-case basis, and they are unlikely to come in one big wave. Each of the six majors has different needs and strike contingency plans. Some may decide to trigger the option that allows studios to extend deals by the number of months the strike lasted. "There will be terminations," a studio chief said. "We just don't know when."

Jericho: United We Stand

Thanks to Rubberpoultry for the awesome image.

From TV Guide:

Issue: Oct. 29 - Nov. 4, 2007.

Jericho #1 in Top 10 Stories, page 10 (full page article with four photos).

"The wait will soon be over for Jericho fans. Expect the drama about America's favorite post-nuclear holocaust survivors to return to CBS by January, says executive producer Carol Barbee. The story planned for a full second season has been packed into the seven episodes ordered by the network and Barbee promises they won't disappoint those looking for answers about the nuclear attack. "By the end, you'll know who did this, why they did this, what their plan is and who is gong to prevail," she says."
****************************************

What do you think? Did CBS intend to give us only 7 episodes? If all our questions will be answered where is the reason for a Season 3? Is this why CBS is not promoting or contacting us?

Even if Jericho moves to another network what will the story be?

We should all stop and think long and hard about what our plan is if CBS cancels Jericho again.
*****************************************

The Holidays are coming and most everyone will have a list of people to buy presents for.

What better way to turn on new fans to Jericho than a Season 1 DVD?

This is a perfect way to share the joy, promote the show, gain new fans and have good DVD sales records.

If every fan would give just one Jericho DVD - we would double our numbers!!

Combine it with some NUTS and you have a fun gift basket!

Also - do you work in an office where they buy gifts for clients? Why not suggest a Jericho DVD?

This Holiday Season - just say NUTS!!!
*************************************

What better Christmas gift (or house-warming gift, even!) than a Season I DVD set and a JERICHO COOKS cookbook!

Now you can buy one cookbook for $15.50 (S&H included) and order others for the low price of $12.00 per book, paying only ONE Shipping & Handling charge!

The proceeds for the cookbook goes to create care packages for our troops overseas and to support JERICHON. Two very good causes!!

Jericho: Must-See-TV ?

" Jericho qualifies as Must-See-TV. I know, that’s an NBC phrase, and Jericho is a CBS series, but I can’t think of any other way to describe it. Kevin and I have been completely engrossed for the past several nights. We are on episode nine, and our sleep patterns are suffering because we can’t just watch one episode in an evening. Thursday night, we put in disc two, intending to watch one episode and then go to bed, and we ended up watching three and not getting to bed until midnight."

Myles does a great job with his Hey Nielsen post. He'll be posting something every day this week. Great article.

"One of the problems that Hey! Nielsen faces is that the fans who reach the site are almost all primarily arriving via other forms of social networking: Message Boards, MySpace, LiveJournal, etc. The problem is that many of these people, then, are used to the systems already in place, and a whole new interface (And a confusing one: opinions, ratings, comments are all unique measurements to the site, as we’ll get to tomorrow) is nearly impossible to understand immediately."

"ABC, Others Rush to Put Shows Online, but Their Delivery Methods Vary"

"The hottest gadgets around these days include iPods, high-definition flat-screen TVs and digital video recorders. Eager to keep up, the broadcast networks have all launched their own online video viewers to reach that growing audience that's at ease watching video not on their TV sets."

Fall Ratings Surprise

"Thanks to a rule change this season by Nielsen Media Research, NBC was able to add viewers from a Saturday replay of "Heroes" while throwing out a low-rated primetime hour. While the other networks cried foul, "Heroes" jumped to 17 million viewers and a 7.3 rating/17 share in the adults 18-49 for the Monday broadcast, a significant change from last week's preliminary estimate of 14.1 million viewers and a 6.5/17."

"Close watchers of the site have been asking us about the downward change in the Rankings and Hey! Nielsen Score overnight. Was it a ripple in the stock market?! No, just us in Beta. Our team will be making many refinements, additions and improvements to the factors that make up the Hey! Nielsen Score during this period."

Fall Ratings Surprises

"A select crop of heavily buzzed fall shows have premiered to merely average ratings in recent weeks, prompting industry head-scratching. The titles had fair-to-great press coverage and strong research tracking numbers to indicate significant pre-air viewer interest. Keep in mind this is very early in the season, all are considered viable and have the potential to gain in the coming weeks. Still, it's worth asking: What happened?"
