Jericho : Viewers and Measurement

I am not fond of Facebook or the way it's set up but I go where there are Jericho viewers to be found. So, here is the easiest, simplest tutorial on using Facebook that I could find.

Come on and join us.

Talk of online audience measurement reached a crescendo in 2007. Publishers, advertisers and measurement firms grappled with significant shifts in how Web content is published and how users interact with it. Publishers pumped up the complaint volume about reporting discrepancies. And the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) demanded the two biggest online measurement firms shed light on their methods.

While baby steps were taken in '07 to adjust audience measurement for a maturing Web, publishers remain disgruntled, Internet users continue to explore new means of consuming digital media, and, for better or worse, agencies have more and more data to decipher.

Perhaps the most significant event in the space occurred in April. In an impassioned missive addressed to the CEOs of online measurement firms ComScore and Nielsen/NetRatings (now Nielsen Online), IAB CEO Randall Rothenberg expressed dismay and frustration with discrepancies in site audience and ad impression reports. Supernatural: We Are Fandom

From Hancoll: Jericho and Supernatural Fan

"Today, we're kicking off a new project that's like nothing we've done before. In fact, we're not sure it's ever been done before:

here are lots of different fandoms online, and some of them are in the same boat we're in -- their show is in danger of not coming back, or has already been cancelled. We've all seen 'Save Our Show' campaigns mounted by hopeful fandoms, and some of them seem to be successful. At their core, those fandoms are a lot like us, and they need the same thing we need -- viewers. So we thought, what if we combined our numbers? Why not get fans of a couple of shows working together to support both shows? Both shows will benefit, both fandoms will benefit.

The first fandom we thought of was "Jericho". Last spring, their fans waged a campaign to save their show that was so successful that CBS actually uncancelled the show. The day CBS announced "Jericho" would come back thanks to the fans' efforts, I decided I had to check out the show for myself. Any show that engendered such passion from its fans was a show I wanted to find out about. I watched it, and I liked it. I thought other Supernatural fans would like it as well, and that Jericho fans would probably like Supernatural, and started imagining how both shows could gain from a combined effort. We need to increase our ratings, and Jericho fans need to keep working in hopes that CBS will give them more than the eight episodes they were given."

Thank you all for understanding. Be back Monday.

"Hollywood hunk and actor best known for his portrayal of Malcolm Reynolds on Joss Whedon’s cult-classic FireFly, Nathan Fillion has been keeping busy as of late, but apparently he’s not too busy to lighten his carbon footprint. When asked by The Blue Penny what he was doing as his part for the environment, he kindly sent back a reply that reeked of sincere charm as well as eco-friendliness."

"For season three, the CW television series Supernatural has brought in fresh faces to add to the cast and stir up some trouble. Los Angeles native Katie Cassidy and British actress Lauren Cohan join the cast as Ruby and Bella, respectively. After lessons in gymnastics, piano, guitar, singing and dancing, the 20-year-old Cassidy -- daughter of The Partridge Family star David Cassidy -- decided to pursue a career in acting. Relatively unknown to American audiences, Cohan is excited to be a part of a show that is already showing in England."

Monster Fan of the Week

The Monster Fan of the Week is Briarpatch/Charlene.

Charlene is a Jericho fan and genuinely nice person. She does a lot for Jericho and never seeks thanks or recognition.

She's always willing to lend a helping hand and she's a fount of knowledge about preparedness issues.

I think we'd all be lost without her. No, we would be lost without her. Her kind and gentle spirit is a calming one and I doubt she realizes how valuable she is to us all.

I love you, Charlene!

For all you do, Charlene, you are the Monster Fan of the Week.

Congratulations and thank you for everything you do.

Welcome To Jericho

Check out this article by Amy at Remote Access.

Jericho, Margie and Edna, and much more.

Many thanks to Terocious for finding this comprehensive article about How Digg works.

"While some might call the premise revolutionary, the basic functions of the Web site itself are pretty simple and intuitive. It's easy to get started using Digg. When you go to the Digg.com homepage, you're already looking at the moment's most popular stories. They've been Dugg by enough users to get promoted to the homepage."

"Google which dominates the market for advertising on the Internet, seems to be hoping to do the same thing on television.

The company is set to announce a partnership today with the Nielsen Company, the voice of authority in measuring television audiences, that will give advertisers a more vivid and accurate snapshot than ever before of how many people are viewing commercials on a second-by-second basis, and who those people are."

Jericho and CBS

"US broadcast network, CBS, has announced the launch of "EyeLab," an editing studio dedicated to creating promotional short-form video content, based on CBS's programming, for distribution across new media platforms. According to the broadcaster, the short-form mash-up content will be tied to programming from CBS News, Sports, Entertainment, Late Night and Daytime, as well as from CSTV and Showtime, and will be produced not only by CBS producers and by professional online content editors, but also by viewers. Eyelab mash-ups will be distributed across the CBS Audience Network (for more on the latter, see below), as well as on CBS.com and CBS Mobile."

Jericho: Can You Digg It ?

Auntvonna is the Monster Fan of the Week

How To Submit A Story To Digg:

I've noticed that a lot of people don't seem to know what to do if they are the first person to try to Digg an article and the Digg has not yet been set up. It's really simple so here are the steps for you:

When you click on the Digg button after reading an article you may be taken to a page where you will see that you are the first person to Digg it so you must submit the story. It's very simple.

1. You will be asked for the title of the story. The URL will be right above that space so you can usually get the title from that.
2. You write a brief little bit as to what the story is about.
3. Scroll down to categories and choose TV.
4. Scroll down and you find one of those boxes where you type in the code which shows you aren't a bot.
5. You may come to a page that says similar stories have been submitted. None of them will be the one you're entering so scroll down and hit the Submit button and you're all done.

" It's an exciting—and confusing—time for watching TV online. The big broadcast networks have finally embraced streaming video and digital downloads, and they're trying all kinds of strategies to get you to tune in, including free (but commercial-laden) Web-based video and for-pay downloads over iTunes and Amazon."

"Kid Nation," the controversial CBS reality show, is currently in the process of casting a second season and scouting locations. However, the search for a suitable spot has the producers contemplating a move to another country next year.
After suffering a barrage of bad press before the premiere in which the show was blasted for putting children in danger and possibly violating child labor issues, the show's producers are having a hard time finding a location in the U.S. willing to host the production, according to published reports."

Jericho: Troops and Groups

Promoting Jericho and Helping the Troops
Thanks kystorms

"In a rare crossover programming maneuver, NBC and CBS have announced plans to converge “Kid Nation” and Dateline’s “To Catch a Predator” for a special event titled “Kid Predator Nation.”

"The online strategy at TV networks like CBS, NBC Universal and Fox has been to link up with a long list of distribution partners to reach as many eyeballs as possible. Wherever viewers are hanging out online, that's where we want to be too, goes this line of thinking."

Germany Wants Jericho DVD

News from 23rd August 2007/Germany

Production Manager Torsten Nobst of Paramount Germany announced the people of serienfans.tv last week, that there WILL BE a german Jericho DVD.
Yesterday (Wednesday) the Team of Jericho-TV.de had the chance to talk to Torsten Nobst. He told us that it ISNT planned to release a german Jericho DVD. Paramount Germany is going to release the german version of the DVD, only if there are orders from the American Mother company and that didn't happen yet.

So the Jericho-TV.de team made another petition to get us the DVD as soon as possible...
We would be really glad if you could help us again and sign the petition.

"Jericho' Fans Flock To Kansas For Convention"

"There may be no real Jericho, Kansas ... but at least for this weekend, Oakley is close enough."

"Q. ABC has signed Lost for another three seasons but what night is it going to be airing? According to the TV commercials, Wednesday's lineup is booked. Same thing goes for Jericho. I am a loyal fan of both shows. — R.A.G., Hollywood

A. Neither ABC nor CBS has locked in a time period for Lost and Jericho, respectively. Don't fret over fully booked lineups. Neither of your favorites is scheduled to return until midseason and there will be cancellations galore within weeks of the start of the official Nielsen season on Sept. 24. ABC has three new series penciled in on Wednesday, the most likely night for Lost's return. History teaches that an all-new night almost never works, because there is no established series to bring traffic to the network. Jericho has only a seven-episode order, so CBS has many options, including using it as a buffer between the two editions of Survivor. I'm not saying this is the plan but it is one of the options."

Jericho Rally Point Proclamation

Jericho Promotion Month, September 2007
A Proclamation by Jericho Rally Point

It is DO OR DIE TIME for the promotion of Jericho..."It is vital that Jericho fans regain that motivation and passion that brought CBS to the decision to give fans seven more episodes. Fans need to recognize the historical achievements that they made four months ago and ensure that Jericho can count on them to do everything in their power to keep it alive."

NOW, THEREFORE, JERICHO RALLY POINT do hereby proclaim September 2007 as JERICHO PROMOTION MONTH. We call upon the people of the Jericho fandom to observe this month with the appropriate actions and activities comparable to those displayed from May 16- June 6, 2007. These activities include resuming the promotion of Jericho wherever you can, however you can. This is our last chance to show CBS that we are serious. We invite all the Jericho fans from all the boards, blogs and sites to join us to Promote Jericho (heavily) through the month of September 2007. Dust off some of the old ideas and share them with your fellow Rangers and lets make sure Jericho lives a long, long time.

Signed,
Jericho Rally Point

Start The Day With Jericho

"CBS Was Warned on ‘Kid Nation,’ Documents Show"

Many thanks to maybei who kindly agreed to let me post her wonderful poem:

With morning coffee everyday
I start things off the Jericho way

First I start with a daily vote
To keep up the numbers and promote

After that I go and DIGG
Take a break and have a cig

Then I might play a game
Who's been captured? Name that Name

Post a message, take a poll
Spread the Jericho Spirit is my goal

It only takes a little time
Not much longer than to make this rhyme

Sounds like a good way to start every day!! Thanks!

Digging For Jericho

Announcing:

Tuesday August 7, 2007

Jericho Digg-A-Thon

I have this set up where you only have to go to one page to digg everything:

DIGG

If you have not registered at Digg then please see below and use my invite.

Why is Digg so important to Jericho?

Once a submission has earned a critical mass of Diggs, it becomes “popular” and jumps to the homepage in its category. If it becomes one of the most popular, it qualifies as a “Top 10”. If a submission doesn't receive enough Diggs within a certain time period, it eventually falls out of the “Upcoming” section.
The system only works when users actively participate on a large scale, so make sure to do your part and Digg content that matters to you!

Basically, the more Diggs a Jericho article gets the more people who will see it. I'm not talking about 10, 50, or even 100 Diggs-we need thousands. Do you want CBS to stand up and notice us again? Do you want to support the cast and crew of Jericho? Do you want more viewers? Here's a simple way to do all that and more.

For a Digg Tutorial go here:

Come Join My Network at Digg

sweat1951 is a member of Digg and would like to send you an invitation. With Digg you can help promote and share news to the millions of Digg viewers with a single click (Digging a story).

Promoting Jericho

There has been a lot of discussion today about how to promote Jericho. Instead of a tutorial today I'd like to address some of the issues raised as well as a few ideas.

1. Are we fragmented? To a degree I think we are. Many of our fellow Rangers left us when CBS announced that they were giving us 7 more episodes. Part of the reason may be that they feel we won and there was no more work to do or they may plan to come back when Jericho airs this Fall. It's also summertime and people are enjoying other activities.

2. Since there are fewer of us it will fall on us to make it appear our numbers are larger than they are. We need more people digging and commenting. We need to post on every forum we can find that will let us talk Jericho. The digging and commenting is going much better for now.

3. We're doing great reaching friends and family but as Memles said that's not enough. We need to extend our arms to embrace everybody. This is difficult because in most marketing plans you learn who your target audience is then you direct all activity towards them. We know that our target is everybody and the way you market to a 60 year old likely won't work with a 10 year old.

4. I have two ideas I'd like to pitch because I can't do them alone.
First, I think an e-book that we could give away could be effective. Why? Because some people like the survival nature of Jericho while others are attracted by the characters. An e-book could appeal to a wide audience. There could be survival tips, character and actor bios, maybe some fan fiction. Anything we wanted. It's just not enough to ask people repeadly to watch. We can give them a reason to want to.
I do not have the expertise to make an e-book. HTML and PDF are foreign to me. If some of us got together and combined our skills we could do it. Let me know if you can help.

5. I have all the names of all the blogs that covered us from the beginning. We don't want to overwhelm them so that they just want us to go away but groups of us could split the blogs and make sure they remember we're here. We could send an email saying Comic Con or the convention is coming up and we hope we can count on you for some coverage. Sometimes I make a comment and work Jericho into it. We have to be creative in our approach.

We still need to reach friends and family, pass out flyers, and do everything we've been doing but we also need to reach more and more people. We need those high profile bloggers back. Plus, we need to make the newspapers and magazines report on us again.

I'll look forward to your responses and I'll post again as to how it's going.

DropJack and Jericho

DropJack is a site much like Digg except you don't have to click on a button like Digg has. I do have a button on this blog but not every blog will have one. You do not have to click on a DropJack button to submit a story or vote on one but you do have to register. This is a good way to take the Google Alert articles about Jericho and submit them for more people to see. It's an easy process.

Anyone can submit news stories, boost (jack it) a story's ranking, drop a story's ranking (drop it) and/or post comments.

After registration you can, if you wish:
Vote on a story
Check your Inbox for messages received.
Review posting history. A member's Profile page has 7 tabs - Personal info, Submitted, Published, Upcoming, Commented, Voted, and Saved - which are fairly self-explanatory but in brief allow you to:

- modify your personal profile
- review a list of your previously submitted news stories
- review a list of your previously published news stories
- check upcoming stories (i.e. submitted but not yet published)
- peruse member comments about stories submitted by you
- review votes cast for your submissions in date order (recent - oldest)
- read news stories you have saved to your member account

View people you have added as friends as well as those who have added you as a friend.

Search the DropJack member base.

Add Friends to your Member Profile simply by clicking on the Posted by "username" link and then the "Add 'username' to my friends" link.

To submit a news story, simply click the "Submit a new story" tab on any DropJack page. Follow the instructions on each succeeding page. Once you have submitted your story, it will appear in the Upcoming News section.

The more Jericho articles we can get posted on here the better. You can use the search to check for articles about Jericho then give them a vote.
